Q: How many miles will a Honda S2000 run before it starts to have problems?
I’m looking to buy a S2000. Now, I’m well aware of Honda’s legendary reliability. The DOHC VTEC’s will damn close to never break down.

Still, I wanted to find out the S2000’s reliability as oppsed to the VTEC’s, especially when the S2K’s engine tends to rev a bit higher . I’ve seen them go for sale with 100K+ miles, so I’m assuming they do get there.

But how many miles does a S2000 run before encountering a major engine or component problem? How reliable are they? And is it a good choice for a used car?

Thanks guys! And let me know if anybody is looking to sell their S2K!

A: If you’re single or have a secondary car, the S2000 is probably the best bang for the buck for a 2 door convertible sports car. I am a big domestic fan but I’m not ignorant; wanted a Trans Am WS6 for the longest time but the S2000 won me over. Honda put alot of quality into making this car. It may rev to 9000rm(2000-2002) but it was built to rev that high. The type R Integra has a similar redline and is still very reliable. If you’ll notice, the S2K seems to hold it’s value pretty well which seems to tell you they aren’t junk. A car with 50k doesn’t necessarily mean it was abused. It’s actually most likely quite the contrary. Someone who had the money to spend that much on the car when it was new probably just used it as a weekend car and garaged it in bad weather being that it’s a rear drive convertible that isn’t so good to drive in bad weather. Let’s face it, it’s just a toy, no more than that. There is no practical reason to own one. You can’t even put a decent amount of luggage in the trunk. But for a toy, it’s a very well built toy that is relatively simple as far as layout. The best way to tell if it was hot rodded and abused is not so much the mileage, but whether or not it was modified. If it’s pretty much bone stock with 50k on it, chances are, it was just driven and babied on a rainy day. After 100k, things will be more prone to wear out on it that you will have to replace regardless of how hard it’s driven. I would look for a used 2000-2002 S2k with 40-60k on it. It’s already depreciated in value and will bring you just as much joy as buying a newer one as not too much as changed as say an 03′ and up. They are a reliable car and the engine and transmission is pretty solid on them, even when driven somewhat hard. You will get plenty of years of reliable, fun transportation without the maintenance woes of a porsche boxster or BMW Z3. I’d say go for it and shop carefully until you find the right price on one. They’re out there and are fairly common to pick up. Most people sell them not because they have problems, but because they have a family, or they need something more practical for daily use.

Q: Am I making the right decision as a 19 year old with my money?
Im 19 and Im trying to decide what to do with my money. Right now I have about $10,000 just chilling in my savings. I was pretty set on moving out and buying a town house around my neighborhood. Ive been looking for months, but to no avail. I finally recently won on one I like, and it finally hit me. Am I doing this too fast?

I used to have a Honda s2000 (fun little sports car) and I really miss it. One day, the naughty side of me decided to go to my local Honda dealer where I keep seeing this very nice red one for sale. Great price. I just wanted to see it, Trying to resist being talked into buying it. Long story short, of all people, the salesman says this to me (After I told him I really wanted it, but couldn’t because Im buying a house): “Why are you rushing into obligations and stress that you don’t even need at your young age?” I’m sure that line was just a sales tactic for me to buy that car, but that really did get me thinking…

I dont think Id be to stressed. I make good money for my age, Im a lead technician for Sprint and Im going to school as well.

I dont know, tell me what you think guys, am I rushing this too fast? Should I just buy another sports car and enjoy my youth? Am I too young to think about mortgage?

A: Kid… buy the Town House not the car..

What those nit-wits at the car dealership didnt tell you was that your “car” would be worth 25% LESS the SECOND you drove it off the lot.

The town house, over time and with good maintenance, will appreciate and you can sell it for a PROFIT.

Most often times… your gut steers you in the right direction… Your gut was telling you to invest in your future.. and your gut was right.

Tell the car folks to go eff off….

Q: why are australian cars so dear, looking for a convertible?
hi, im moving to australia within the next two weeks to go to uni, and im looking for a replacement for my bmw mini which im unable to import, i have approx £11,000 which here in england easily buys you a nice second hand car.

the problem is i cant seem to find anything reasonably priced, for example i fancied having an audi tt roadster, (lol sunshine and top down an all that haha) but the only one i can find for sale in WA is a year 2000 and $32000 which is approx £14000 and back here in the UK i could easily pick up a similar one for £9000. why is it soooo dear??? can anyone enlighten me?

so looking for info for were i can get a nice pref convertible within my price range such as an mercedes slk, audi tt, honda s2000, also interested in cars such as a bmw 3 series E46 coupe or another mini!!! so if anyones got one for sale which i can afford or can help?

any help would be much appreciated!

thanks, scott

A: European cars cost a lot to import to Australia due to the distance, these cars also attract a luxury car tax in Aust when new.
So as the car is sold it still carries some of the costs from new. Therefore our european cars cost a sh!t load more than they should, but hey thats life buy an Aussie built car if you dont want to pay the big bucks!

As for buying a convetible….. Australia is not that sunny place you see in the magazines every day. We have some of the extremest weather in different parts of the country. I would buy one with a sun roof only, not soft top. Rememer 40 degrees Celcius is not the temperature to have a flimsy rag top folded back. you will want full protection and a good airconditioner.

Q: whats a 95 BMW 850 worth?
ive been looking at a local one thats for sale he asking 6,500 the car is well maintained has about 78k on the odometer. what are some problems the car is know for? ive seen them sell for alot more just wondering is there something else i should be looking for?

The idea is he wants to Trade for my 86 Ferrari 288 for the BMW+1k. The Ferrari runs on a Honda Engine, needs paint, door and roof seals, and the right headlight motor is out.

***backstory as to why the Ferrari is powered by Honda***
i got the Ferrari for free with no engine so we modified a S2000 engine, i didnt decapitate it on purpose the original owner did.

A: I’d way rather have a solid v12 Torquey BMW than a hacked together Ferrari.

The v12 is a solid engine, common problems include failed mass airflow sensors (it has two of them I believe), they’re also a bit of a pain in the ass to change spark plugs on…

but a pretty solid car, however replacement parts are expensive, but you should know that already.
make sure the front and rear suspension bushings are intact as well…
